History

ORION Laboratories Pty Ltd was founded in 1985 by two young chemists, David Stacy and Paul Rowney who provided small scale manufacturing services in the chemical, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry.

In 1988, seeking expanded manufacturing capability, Nevill Crump, Rod Unsworth and Carlo Manera, directors of Delta West, a WA based pharmaceutical manufacturer, purchased a majority holding of ORION to enhance its specialist manufacturing capabilities.

As well, Robert Kimpton, a Hospital Pharmacist with extensive background in manufacturing, joined ORION as Managing Director and together with Nevill Crump and the team, quickly contributed to ORION's reputation as a progressive pharmaceutical manufacturer.

In 1991, Orion was released from the group when Upjohn purchased Delta West. As a privately owned and independent company ORION has since grown rapidly into one of Australia's few pharmaceutical manufacturers and suppliers, particularly focussed on hospitals.

In 1996, Justin Crump joined ORION as Executive Director, following the retirement of Carlo Manera.

In 2004, Orion moved to its new expanded manufacturing facility in Balcatta, Western Australia, from where it operates today.
